Teen Substance Abuse: Adolescent Treatment and Recovery![]() Teen substance abuse is both a frightening and frustrating experience that affects the entire family. Studies show that a combination of individual and family based counseling services is the most effective method to help teens get back on track. We help parents understand and cope with their teen's substance abuse. Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) and the Matrix ModelMFI employs the latest and proven methods of treatment for teens who are abusing alcohol and drugs, developing problems with school and peers, and who have conflict within their families. Treatment approaches designed for adults do not tend to work with teens. Treatment efforts must target the youth, their families, their friends, and school. Success must be measured in each of these areas. MFI Recovery Center's caring, professional counselors help teens and their families improve communication, rebuild trust, and establish a sense of reasonable control. Individualized plans allow for more flexible treatment that can precisely meet your personal needs and goals. Counselors will even meet you in your home when transportation is not available. Treatment programs are continuously adjusted on a weekly basis to specifically target the immediate need. Combining research-based treatment with genuine care, our skilled, professional counselors work to re-establish loving and productive relationships. Families can be restored. MFI's program is unique in that success is measured in milestones rather than the typical definition of success of 100% abstinence. While your teen is eliminating substance abuse, other success - better school attendance, achieving better grades, positively interacting with family members, gaining employment, developing coping skills - are being achieved in healthy ways. RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FOR ADOLESCENTS![]() MORE THAN DRUG REHABMFI Recovery Center provides a family-based treatment program designed for teens with drug and behavior problems. Our approach is recognized as a new generation of effective treatments. The treatment seeks to significantly reduce or eliminate the teen's substance abuse and other problem behaviors, and to improve overall family functioning. The goals are to transform the drug using lifestyle into positive family relationships, positive peer relations, healthy identity formation, bonding to school and work. With some teens and families, a brief stay in a residential setting provides distance from the teen's drug-using friends, an emotional break from tensions for both parents and teen, and space to allow the individual and family therapy to begin to take root. For those families that would benefit from a residential stay, MFI Recovery Center has formed a cooperative partnership with Operation SafeHouse. Operation SafeHouse provides a beautiful, modern residential setting in Thousand Palms (Palm Springs, CA area), to teens who are in distress. More than a residential center, Operation SafeHouse provides the needed recess from the cycle of distress often occurring in the family of a teen who is using alcohol and drugs. In partnership, MFI Recovery Center and Operation SafeHouse utilize their unique talents to bring families back together and help the youth get their lives back on track. Operation SafeHouse is not drug rehab but a SafeHouse that provides a break for the teen and the family from each other while the MFI therapy continues to take root. This program is voluntary and requires cooperation from all. Teen Substance Abuse: Ecstasy, Marijuana, Methamphetamine (Meth), and LSDEcstasy is spreading from "Raves" and dance parties into other venues and neighborhoods. Ecstasy users are among the youngest club drug users. Users of ecstasy also tend to use alcohol, marijuana, methamphetamine, and cocaine. They often seek help in hospital emergency rooms for unexpected reactions or overdose. 11,000 young people recently attended an all night rave party at Pharoah's Lost Kingdom in Redlands California where 81 arrests were made for drug offenses. Marijuana is considered a 'gateway' drug to other substances such as methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, and ecstasy. Marijuana has become very potent thanks to the development of specialized agricultural techniques. This drug is associated with poor school performance, low motivation, memory loss, and anti-social behavior Adolescent Substance Abuse: Alcohol, Pain Killers, Oxycontin, Vicodin, Norco's, Codeine, PercosetAmong junior high school students, the number one illicit drug of choice is prescription drugs. The number one illicit drug of choice of high school students is marijuana followed by prescription drugs. Substance abuse treatment programs for adolescents cannot be based on a stepped-down adult program. Adolescent treatment is a specialty field in its own right. There has to be a level of involvement in the teen's life that demonstrates respect, interest and caring, but also knowledge about the world that teens live in. It's a different world than that of 20 years ago, and MFI Recovery Center's treatment program reflects the advancements made in adolescent substance abuse programs over the past decade.
CONVENIENT OUTPATIENT OFFICES LOCATED IN RIVERSIDE, HEMET SAN JACINTO, BANNING, AND MURRIETA, CAResidential, hospital-based, boot camps and adventure camps have relatively poor outcomes for teens after they leave treatment compared to the treatment models used at MFI. Studies show that the quality of the post-residential treatment environment, particularly relationships with non-drug using friends, involvement in school, pro-social activities and family are critical to recovery.
