MFI Recovery Center's Chief Executive Officer will be retiring at the end of the year after a stellar career of service in the cause of community behavioral health including the last 33 years leading the organization. As part of a planned leadership transition, a regional search is underway to identify and recruit top-notch professionals from Southern California to compete for this rewarding leadership role.

This is a unique and transformative leadership opportunity to guide a dynamic and growing integrated community behavioral and primary healthcare system from its roots in community addiction and mental health treatment into the future of competition and collaboration; expanding demand for behavioral healthcare services amidst ever-changing funding streams; service and system integration with physical healthcare; a focus on outcomes and prevention; and, higher than ever expectations for quality, compliance and public accountability. The new CEO must face these challenges while adhering to MFI Recovery Center's commitment to recovery and resiliency-oriented systems of care that afford individuals hope, the right to self-determination and choice.

MFI Recovery Center, Inc. (MFI) is a $14M CARF accredited non-profit corporation dedicated to providing quality, affordable and fully integrated mental health, substance abuse and primary medical care programs for men, women, women with children, and adolescents. Home-based in Riverside, California, MFI has focused on providing comprehensive substance abuse recovery and behavioral health services to help individuals and families achieve and maintain a healthy and productive lifestyle for over 46 years www.mfirecovery.com. The Center has built a reputation as a premier provider of high quality services that is committed to innovation and evidence-based services that promote successful outcomes across the breadth of their services. Some examples include Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT), the Matrix Model for Adults and for Adolescents, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Positive Parenting Practices (Triple P), and Incredible Years Parenting. Most recently, in 2016, fully embraced Whole-Person Care and launched its Primary Care Clinic designed to treat the medical conditions of the hundreds of patients that MFI treats on a daily-basis.

Known for its leadership in Riverside County and the surrounding region's community behavioral health system, MFI is committed to developing innovative solutions in response to rapidly changing individual and community needs. In its work, MFI's greatest asset is its engaged and dedicated professional workforce of almost 200 full and part-time clinical and administrative staff, volunteers and agency partners. Balancing the challenges of serving a large urban population while attending to the unique needs of growing rural communities across the County has required MFI to adapt and change, using emerging and clinical best practices, community collaborations, technology and management expertise to their maximum advantage.

MFI Recovery Center, Inc. is governed by a 15-member voluntary citizen Board of Directors. The Board represents diverse interests from across the county including schools, social & other human service agencies, healthcare professionals and organizations, stakeholders, and a broad spectrum of community members. As they move strategically toward governance of a fully integrated behavioral and physical healthcare organization, the Board make-up will become 51% consumer members. The Board is focused on selecting a new Chief Executive Officer to secure MFI's future and lead it to new heights as a premier behavioral health and primary care integrated services provider.

Candidate Profile
Our "Ideal" candidates should:

  • Be a seasoned and insightful leader from a community behavioral healthcare and/or integrated healthcare system who has demonstrated organizational success in today's healthcare marketplace
  • Be a visionary who can look over the horizon and guide an organization, staff and community to achieve their potential
  • Demonstrate the highest level of integrity and have a history of building trusting relationships - internally with the Board and staff and externally with communities, strategic partners and funders
  • Have developed a wide range of relationships to improve/expand services, reduce/contain costs, solve community problems and secure an organization's future through contracts, partnerships, collaborations, mergers and/or acquisitions
  • Have a successful track record leading strategic initiatives and guiding organizational change
  • Be an innovator who fosters and supports a culture of creativity and risk-taking without sacrificing quality of services or financial stability.
  • Have demonstrated business acumen in today's evolving healthcare environment while achieving both clinical and operational excellence
  • Be driven by both personal and organizational values and have a passion for meeting the needs of people and their communities
  • Have a graduate degree in a Human Services field, Business, Healthcare or Public Administration or a related field, preferably with a human services or non-profit specialization
  • Have work-life experience in Southern California and current knowledge of California's healthcare marketplace
  • Progressive management experience in community behavioral health organizations, hospitals or integrated healthcare systems is required. At five (5) years of that experience must have been in senior management positions
  • Experience working with/for a Board of Directors is a must
  • Preferred experiences include:
    • Prior chief executive experience
    • Successful Board-Executive relationships
    • Substantive Healthcare Systems Management
    • Integrated Care leadership - within behavioral health and between physical and behavioral health

Location

Located 60 miles east of Los Angeles, Riverside is the largest city in the Inland Empire and in Riverside County, CA. Senior Counselor
Salary Range: $14 to $15 per hour

  • Supervising a specific shift of alcohol and drug counselors in a residential treatment center
  • Assessing client problems and providing recommendations/referrals
  • Crisis intervention, case management, and individual therapy
  • Development of individualized person-centered treatment and service plans with measurable goals and objectives
  • Liaison to community agencies serving people with co-occurring disorders
  • Familiar and comfortable with a strengths-based recovery model of care
  • Comfortable and excited about team focused treatment
  • Program services planning and development and group treatment experience focused on drug and alcohol problems, relapse prevention, and trauma
  • Evidence-Based Practices, which ideally you will have knowledge and experience with:
    • Motivational Interviewing
    • Cognitive Behavioral Relapse Prevention
    • Strength-Based Case Management
    • Crisis Intervention Skills
  • Communications / Interpersonal Skills
  • Savvy with technology/programs, such as: electronic health records, MS Office applications (MSWord, Excel and Outlook), internet searches, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent clinical documentation
  • Very strong commitment and passion for serving those with drug and alcohol and co-occurring problems
  • Strong desire to reach out to others in need in our community
  • Compliance knowledge: HIPAA; ethics; clinical boundaries
  • Minimum Qualifications: Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor. 2 years experience working in drug and alcohol recovery. 1 year experience in supervising counseling staff preferred.

Counselor I
Salary Range: $10 to $12 per hour

  • Assessing client problems and providing recommendations/referrals
  • Crisis intervention, case management, and individual therapy
  • Development of individualized person-centered treatment and service plans with measurable goals and objectives
  • Liaison to community agencies serving people with co-occurring disorders
  • Familiar and comfortable with a strengths-based recovery model of care
  • Comfortable and excited about team focused treatment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent clinical documentation
  • Very strong commitment and passion for serving those with drug and alcohol and co-occurring problems
  • Strong desire to reach out to others in need in our community
