Hemet Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Hope for the Hurting

Adult | Children | Family | Prevention | Recovery | Teen

Yarely Torres has always had a soft spot for adolescents. Prior to starting her career at MFI five years ago, she worked with teens at various locations, including in their homes. She noticed, firsthand, that many substance abuse and mental health issues were rooted in the family dynamic and affected every member. She wondered how she could help them all. The question led her to grad school, where she began an internship at MFI and studied to be a licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).

Today, Yarely manages the MFI Outpatient Recovery Center in Hemet. She and her nine-member staff offer a full continuum of addiction treatment services for adolescents, men, women, and women with children. They connect clients to skilled professional medical doctors, certified substance abuse counselors, and licensed therapists, creating customized treatment plans with the primary goal of restoring hope.

The program helps clients learn ways to cope with cravings, adapt to and maintain a sober lifestyle, and to identify the root causes of substance abuse. But the center also treats people who suffer from mental health issues, whether or not those issues led to substance abuse.

"MFI is known for substance abuse treatment," she explains. "But we also help people struggling with mental disorders such as anxiety, depression and disorders that affect daily functioning."

Serving up to 30 clients a day, the Hemet Outpatient Facility's Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are available Monday -- Thursday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., making them ideal for anyone who may need to maintain professional/educational or personal responsibilities during treatment.

Yarely loves working at MFI because she is able to put her specialized training to use, focusing on Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT). An evidence-based treatment plan offered in the county on a limited basis outside of MFI, the approach features intense therapy for adolescents and their parents in individual and group settings.

"We meet clients where they are to support them as well as their families," Yarely says. "So, we travel to their schools, homes and office settings instead of just working out of the Hemet location."

Wherever they receive treatment, clients quickly learn that MFI is a safe place to get help. Yarely says the most rewarding part of her job is seeing broken families enter with despair and leave with hope.

She says, "It doesn't get any better than that."
