Science and the 12 Steps
Addiction Treatment and the 12 Step Recovery Program
At the heart of MFI Recovery Center's approach are the practices of the 12 step program. We incorporate concepts from both Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous as both programs have had astounding success in helping addicts achieve life-long sobriety. Current research shows that people with addictions often have difficulty forming attachments and feeling a connection to society. This difficulty can either lead to addictive behaviors or make them worse. The 12 step program not only provides a spiritual connection, it also encourages a strong social support, both of which are important foundations for recovery from substance abuse.
The Facts about the 12 Step Recovery Program
The 12 step recovery program provides our clients with an introduction to the steps as a part of treatment in both inpatient and outpatient programs. The 12 step program has a long history of helping addicts and alcoholics regain control of their lives, and we are dedicated to providing our clients with the most effective tools available. The 12 Steps are a method of examining the ways in which a person who abuses substances uses drugs and alcohol to escape confronting difficult and challenging situations and feelings. By providing a very open spiritual framework as support, the Steps bring an individual face-to-face with these difficulties and challenges while providing workable, effective solutions.
MFI Recovery Center's 12 Step Program and Treatment
By studying the 12 step program and learning the skills necessary to live life without the need for a substance, an individual can secure a higher success rate for long-term sobriety. These objectives are accomplished through group self-help meetings (AA/NA) and personal sponsorship, providing structure, emotional support, and guidance. Clients are also encouraged to attend 12 step recovery program meetings off-site, and to continue this important source of support in the aftercare period.
